Customer Own Gas Lines

In the event that your property has, or may have in the future, gas piping located downstream of the gas meter, this piping is considered customer-owned buried piping (the piping that runs underground from the meter to your home, building, or appliances)

Federal safety regulations (49 CFR §192.16) require us to let you know the following:

  • We do not maintain this piping.
  • You are responsible for safely maintaining it.
  • Buried metallic piping can rust or corrode over time and may develop leaks.
  • For your safety, it is important to:
    • Have the piping periodically inspected for leaks and corrosion.
    • Repair any unsafe conditions promptly.
    • When digging near buried piping, call 811 before you dig to have utilities marked.
    • If repair or replacement is needed, use qualified contractors and materials approved for gas service.

Taking these steps helps keep your family and property safe. If you have questions or need guidance, please contact us at 864-862-0042.
