Equal Payment Plan


Avoid surprises in your gas bill by paying the same amount each month.

The City of Fountain Inn Natural Gas offers the Equal Payment Plan (EPP) to help customers stabilize their monthly energy costs. This program spreads your natural gas expenses evenly throughout the year so you can plan your budget with confidence.

Please note: while the program is called the Equal Payment Plan (EPP), it will appear on your monthly bill as AMP (Average Monthly Payments).


What is the Equal Payment Plan?

Often referred to as budget billing, the Equalization Payment Plan calculates a fixed monthly payment based on the previous 12 months of natural gas usage at your residence.

Instead of paying higher bills in the winter and lower bills in the summer, your total annual cost is distributed evenly throughout the year.

Because natural gas is commonly used for heating, many customers experience higher bills during the colder months. By paying a consistent monthly amount, the Equalization Payment Plan helps eliminate those seasonal spikes.

During months when usage is lower—typically in the summer—you will build a credit on your account that helps offset higher winter usage. Your monthly statement will show your account balance so you can track this credit.


How Does It Work?

Your monthly payment amount is calculated using the past 12 months of billing history for your service address.

  • The calculated amount will be billed monthly for eleven (11) months.
  • In the twelfth month (April), your account is reconciled by comparing the total gas charges to the total payments made.

At that time:

  • If your actual usage is more than the payments received, the remaining balance will be billed.
  • If your actual usage is less than the payments received, a credit will be applied to your account.

    There are no fees to participate in this program.

How Do I Enroll?

Enrollment takes place in April, and Equal Payment Plan billing begins in May.

To qualify for the program, you must:

  • Have 12 months of billing history at the service address
  • Maintain an excellent payment history

To enroll, contact our Customer Service Department at (864) 862-0042 or complete the Enrollment Form.

Once your eligibility is confirmed, you will receive a letter outlining your calculated monthly payment amount. To begin participation, simply sign and return the agreement by the date listed in the letter.
