Swamp Rabbit Trail Dam

🔺 Trail Hazard & Closure Summary

The area near Mount Zion Drive and Ducket Street has developed multiple sinkholes and severe erosion.  To prevent further damage and danger, the property owner and City have agreed to dewater the pond behind the dam.  The trail segment has been officially closed due to significant public safety risks.

Trail is closed to ALL users: walkers, runners, bikers, scooters, skaters, horses, ATVs, etc.  The City is working closely with SC DNR, DHEC, and Greenville County Parks to plan for dam removal or stabilization.  There is no firm timeline for the project due to permitting, safety, and coordination needs.

August 2025 - A repair plan for the SRT has been developed, which includes draining the pond and constructing a culvert for future stormwater management. The landowner supports the plan, and Greenville County is collaborating on planning and securing grants for the project. Currently, there is no set timeline for bidding or repairs.
