GP McLeer is currently in his second term as Mayor of Fountain Inn, South Carolina after first being elected in 2019.
Professionally, GP has worked almost entirely in the nonprofit sector and currently serves as the Director of Public Policy & Community Engagement for Together SC, the state’s nonprofit association. At Together SC he is charged with monitoring public policy related to the nonprofit sector and also leads the planning of the state’s largest nonprofit conference each year.
GP also is the Director of the Upstate Mobility Alliance, a ten-county initiative of the regional nonprofit Ten at the Top where he monitors transportation-related policy and trends across the Upstate region.
He is also the co-founder of Pecan PR, a boutique firm that specializes in helping nonprofit organizations with their advocacy, event planning, and communications. Pecan PR is proudly based in Fountain Inn.
GP has served on numerous boards and committees, and currently sits on the following:
- Association of SC Mayors - Board of Directors
- Greenville-Pickens Area Transportation Study (GPATS) - Policy Committee
- Municipal Association of SC - Legislative Committee
- Keep Laurens County Beautiful - Board of Directors, Founding Board Chair
- College of Charleston - School of the Arts Council
GP is also a past Chair of the Fountain Inn Chamber of Commerce and a past board member of the Fountain Inn Chorale.
He has been named one of the area’s “50 Most Influential” and “Best and Brightest Under 35” by Greenville Business Magazine.
GP is a graduate of the College of Charleston where he was awarded the 250th Anniversary Young Alumnus Award.
He is married to his wife, Taylor, who is an educator with graduate degrees from Anderson University (MAT) and Clemson University (Ed.S). Taylor has worked as a classroom teacher and administrator, and now runs her own professional coaching business and works part-time with Greenville County Schools. Taylor and GP have one daughter, Albee James.
GP’s parents, George and Elizabeth McLeer, also reside in Fountain Inn. He is the oldest of three siblings. His sister, Mairin McLeer, is an Assistant Principal in a nearby district, and their brother, Michael McLeer, is a law student at USC School of Law.
